About Us
NCS GeoResources, LLC, (NCSG) was established in 2005 by Naresh C. Samtani, PE, PhD, to provide training for several emerging technologies in the field of geotechnical engineering. Training is provided in an "active" or "adult" learning format wherein learning is fostered through interactive sessions rather than "lecture" format used in academia. Furthermore, training is developed and provided based on actual practical experience rather than "book" knowledge.
The training courses are developed by Dr. Samtani with input from other leading experts as necessary. Dr. Samtani has taught over 50 courses nationwide for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and state and local agencies. Dr. Samtani has 20 years of experience with specialization in temporary and permanent retaining wall design, deep foundations, and ground improvement techniques. Dr. Samtani has been certified as an instructor by the National Highway Institute (NHI) which is the training arm of the FHWA and has taught NHI courses since 1997. Dr. Samtani has authored and co-authored several technical manuals and short courses.
Courses developed by NCSG are reviewed by Edward A. Nowatzki, PE, PhD, who is also a co-instructor with Dr. Samtani on some of the courses. Dr. Nowatzki has over 40 years of consulting and academic experience and has developed several courses based on practical aspects of geotechnical engineering. Dr. Nowatzki has also co-authored a book "Soil Mechanics for Off-Road Vehicles." In 2006, Drs. Samtani and Nowatzki co-authored the following manuals for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA): (1) Hollow-Core Soil Nails Walls : State-of-the-Practice; (2) Soils and Foundations (2 volumes). Copies of these manuals may be downloaded from http://www.ncsconsultants.com.
NCSG is backed by a full service geotechnical engineering firm, NCS Consultants, LLC (NCSC) which is routinely involved in the design and implementation of the various emerging technologies described in this website. Therefore, once an entity has taken the training provided by NCSG, full consulting services can be provided through NCSC. This provides a unique benefit to the clients since they get the benefit of continued on-the-job training on actual projects. Further information on the consulting services provided by NCSC can be found at http://www.ncsconsultants.com.
